Transcript: were there met by a conveyance I had previously arranged to be sent & the bodies brought to the morgue at the mansfield hospital where they now await a coroners inquest to be held tomorrow morning at 10 oclock Prior to starting on sunday evening I despatched a trooper Meehan to supt sadleir Benalla with a despatch telegraph being silent giving a short account of the affair Const meehan did not reach Benalla nor Broken river and his horse was found in a paddock ten miles this side of Broken river station and Brought here ? sent out a search party and they have not yet returned Const McIntyre is very ill and will go to Hospital this evening we have no police firearms and only one constable at this station I have telegraphed for Constable Glynn from Jamieson Johnston from Gaffneys & and s c Irvine from alexander Mr Monk who rendered us so much assistance is very anxious that his name should not appear in any way as he lives in a very lonely place
